JJ’s Red Hots is settling the Great Hot Dog Day Debate of 2016 like a national award-winning hot dog concept should: by celebrating the hot dog every day, including July 23, one of the “two” Hot Dog Days of summer.

While the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council designated July 14 as National Hot Dog Day this year based on the Congressional Calendar, which is tied to the National Hot Dog Lunch on Capitol Hill, many national brands such as Nathan’s Famous, Wienerschnitzel, Dog Haus, and 7-Eleven decided to stick with last year’s date of July 23.

The Charlotte-based hot dog king, recently named by Tabelog as one of the 10 most unique hot dog joints in the U.S., decided to celebrate for the entire month of July, designated and agreed to by all as National Hot Dog Month. For all of July, JJ’s is bringing back the most popular creations from each of its first four years of JJ’s Dog of the Week program, which features specially designed and priced Hot Dogs beginning each Monday.

“With all due respect to the NHDSC and the other brands who have ‘chosen’ either the 14th or the 23rd, if you really like hot dogs, who gives a flying flip?” says Jonathan Luther, JJ’s proprietor. “Every day at JJ’s is National Hot Dog Day. That said, we’ll play ball on the 23rd, the second iteration of the beloved day with a great price on one of our most popular hot dogs (Chili Cheese Coneys, with chili, cheese, and onions).”

JJ’s is also featuring Put That In Your Pipe as its Dog of the Week through July 24. For $4.99, it features House Smoked Cheddar, bacon crumbles, smoked jalapeno ketchup and chopped red onion. It was the brand’s best-selling Dog of the Week from July 2014 to July 2015. JJ’s will close the month with its most popular Dog of the Week from the past year with Murica, the world’s first mac and cheese corn dog with beer queso, house-made pepper jelly and bacon crumbles.

In addition to its world-class Hot Dogs, JJ’s is also famous for its hand-crafted artisanal sausages and house-made sides and toppings.

JJ’s Chili Cheese Coneys are available for $2 all day July 23 at both JJ’s locations in Charlotte, Dilworth on 1514 East Boulevard and Ballantyne on 15105 N. John J Delaney Drive.
