Debuting in three designs, the shirts offer something for everyone, regardless of political preference. Republicans can don the "Right Wing" T in a red hue, while Democrats can show their pride by sporting the heathered blue "Left Wing" T. For the still undecided voters, KFC offers a white "Left Wing, Right Wing: Tastes the Same to Me" T. All three designs include a subtle retro image of KFC's founder and wing expert, Colonel Harland Sanders.
"At KFC, we're certain one political candidate will have an 'original recipe' for success this election year. Regardless of what wing America chooses, KFC encourages everyone to get out to the polls and vote," says Javier Benito, executive vice president of marketing and food innovation for KFC.
As the national conventions loom, KFC will predict America's choice for the White House based on America's preference for Right Wings and Left Wings via the percentage of Political T's sported throughout the U.S.
"Not only are the T's fun and super comfortable, they're a cool way for young people to show their support during the election," says Erikka Wang, owner of Akira.
Along with shelving at Akira, Divaz Boutique, and Grand Central Clothing, these shirts for the politically-proud were distributed coast-to-coast with Young Republicans and Young Democrats of America.
Proceeds from all shirts sold will benefit KFC Colonel's Scholars. Now in its third year, Colonel's Scholars benefits high school seniors who demonstrate success in the classroom and financial need. Each year, a group of 50 or more students will each be eligible to receive up to $20,000 over four years to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited public university within their home state. In 2008, 100 students received scholarships from Colonel's Scholars.
