On Tuesday, Kentucky Fried Chicken announced that it is stepping up its sandwich game by testing a new, more premium KFC Chicken Sandwich in select restaurants in Orlando for a limited time only. The perfectly fried chicken sandwich is bigger and better than KFC’s current sandwich offer and is its best sandwich yet.

“We wanted a chicken sandwich that really lives up to our legacy as the fried chicken experts and, let’s face it, ours wasn’t the one to beat,” says Andrea Zahumensky, chief marketing officer, KFC U.S. “We knew an upgrade was necessary, so we painstakingly selected each ingredient to create a bigger, better and more premium sandwich than ever. I think we’ve unlocked a chicken sandwich that won’t just compete – it’ll win with fried chicken lovers everywhere.”

Compared to its current sandwich, the new KFC Chicken Sandwich boasts an upgrade in every way – from a 20 percent larger, double-breaded, Extra Crispy chicken filet on a new buttery brioche bun, to the crispier, thicker pickles, and the perfect amount of the Colonel’s real mayo, now in classic or spicy.

“Our food innovation team set out to create our best chicken sandwich yet, and to find the perfect combination of ingredients to pair with our world-famous fried chicken,” adds Zahumensky. “They left no stone unturned. They tested pickles with eight variations of thickness and brines before we landed on our pickle. And for our perfect brioche bun, we collaborated with six different bakeries and tested more than ten formula revisions in order to find the right one to hug the larger-than-ever filet in just the right way.”

Customers in Orlando have multiple options for purchasing the new KFC Chicken Sandwich, including:

  • KFC Chicken Sandwich à la carte for $3.99
  • KFC Chicken Sandwich combo meal which includes a side (like KFC Secret Recipe Fries)
  • and medium drink for $6.99

To celebrate Orlando’s frontline workers who have been working tirelessly amidst the COVID- 19 pandemic, KFC will deliver an exclusive first taste of the new sandwich to some unsung heroes who have kept America up and running in recent weeks. Among those receiving a first taste are some of the frontline workers chronicled in the Orlando Sentinel’s Pandemic Portraits, including teachers, auto mechanics, police officers and others.

KFC franchisees have been stepping up their relief efforts across the country, donating thousands of meals to healthcare workers and feeding families in need. KFC franchisees recently donated one million pieces of chicken to communities in need and committed 1.2 million pounds of food to local food banks to combat critical shortages.

As a part of the brand’s food innovation strategy, KFC has a history of testing craveable menu items and evaluating customer feedback. This limited test of the new KFC Chicken Sandwich is part of a continued commitment to understanding consumer tastes and preferences.

Most filets are 20 percent larger by weight than the average weight of Crispy Colonel filet.
