Fruit grower-owned cooperative Knouse Foods launched a new line of single-serve Musselman’s applesauces to meet the rising demand for more healthful options with meals.
Totally Fruit is naturally sweetened with fruit juice concentrate, contains no high fructose corn syrup, and is available in apple, peach, and strawberry flavors.
Healthy Picks is made with antioxidant-rich “superfruits” pomegranate, cupuacu, and acai, contains no added sugar and is fortified with a daily source of fiber, calcium, and vitamin C. Healthy Picks applesauces are available in three flavors: blueberry pomegranate, key lime cupuacu, and raspberry acai.
Recent research by the National Restaurant Association reveals that Americans are seeking healthier options when they dine out and that food-service operations’ responsiveness to customer preferences will further drive this industry trend. Specifically, “superfruits” and “healthful fruit/vegetable side dishes for kids” topped the list of What’s Hot in 2009, NRA’s survey of more than 1,600 American Culinary Federation chefs.
“As the healthy trend evolves, diners are expanding their tastes for more exotic flavors and fruits that contain nutritional benefits,” says Todd Michael, food service sales manager for Knouse Foods. “Our new Musselman’s applesauces are specifically designed to meet the demand for these consumers.”
