The doughnut-sized void New York City has been experiencing without Krispy Kreme’s iconic hot and fresh Original Glazed Doughnuts will be filled in 2020.
Krispy Kreme announced that it will open six new shops in New York City this year and re-open its refurbished Penn Station shop Thursday, January 30, delighting New Yorkers and tourists alike. The global sweet treat brand also revealed that May will be the grand opening month for its previously announced Times Square flagship, equipped with the world’s largest Hot Light and hot/fresh doughnuts 24/7. By the end of 2020, Krispy Kreme will go from having one shop in the city to seven shops – from uptown to downtown and in between.
“New Yorkers expect the best, including the best doughnuts. Their reaction to our Times Square flagship announcement last year was tremendous. It fueled our excitement to expand in the Big Apple in an even bigger way,” says Andrew Skehan, Krispy Kreme’s President of North America.
In 2020, Krispy Kreme expects to hire over 400 people to support its New York City presence. These new Krispy Kremers will serve customers in various roles such as retail leadership, doughnut making, doughnut decorating, doughnut delivery and other retail roles.
The first new Krispy Kreme location is a convenient, fresh shop in Manhattan’s bustling midtown area, opening Feb. 4 at 994 6th Ave (on West 37th St.), featuring a full doughnut menu, hot and cold beverages. Additional shops will open this year in the Financial District, the Bronx/East Fordham, Harlem and the Upper West Side.
The remodeled Penn Station shop at 2 Penn Plaza, Amtrak Level, will feature a full doughnut menu, hot and cold beverages with mobile order available for pickup and delivery, beginning Thursday.
For added convenience, pick-up and delivery will be available at every new Krispy Kreme shop exclusively through online or the Krispy Kreme mobile app (IOS and Android).
Krispy Kreme’s first-of-its-kind, 4,500-square-foot flagship at Broadway and 48th Street in Times Square is under construction. When it opens in May, the shop will serve more guests annually than any other Krispy Kreme location in the world, bringing its iconic doughnut theater experience to life on the world stage.
From the mixing of raw ingredients to the iconic glaze waterfall, the shop will showcase the end‑to‑end doughnut making process, creating a wondrously delightful customer experience that is surpassed only by the first bite of Krispy Kreme’s melt-in-your-mouth Original Glazed Doughnuts just minutes later. And guests can take that first bite while sitting in the world’s largest Krispy Kreme doughnut box with stadium‑style seating, offering the perfect view of the doughnut theater across the shop. Guests will also have access to immersive and interactive digital activations and new, exclusive merchandise that celebrates both New York City and Krispy Kreme in a fresh and fun way.
