Recognized for outstanding philanthropic endeavors, The Krystal Foundation announced its second anniversary on February 22 to award grants to teachers, principals, school faculty, PTO/PTA groups and other K-12 School-affiliated organizations are eligible to apply for a grant. For the remainder of the year, the foundation’s open grant windows will take place March 1 through April 1, and September 1 through November 1.

The foundation launched its first ever application window on February 22, 2017. Since then, the brand has hosted three application windows and issued $53,184.56 in grants to 25 schools, organizations, teachers, and non-profits. This February marks the second anniversary of the foundation’s initiative.

Krystal is famous for its squared steam burgers, and it has capitalized on that image to promote ongoing philanthropic efforts. In 2018, the company looks forward to truly “sharing the square” with a commitment to funding and grants for vital educational enrichment programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.).

“We have an 85-year history of being part of our neighborhoods, and being good neighbors,” says Sloane Perras, president of The Krystal Foundation and SVP, Chief Administrative & Legal Officer for The Krystal Company. “Supporting local educational enrichment programs just makes sense, and we’re hoping to grow the number of grantees by funding important extracurricular and enrichment programs.”

The foundation’s endeavors benefit many schools, teachers, and students eager to advance their education. The Krystal® Foundation has supported drone competitions, robotics clubs, and provided funds for necessary upgrades for music department and sports team equipment.

Giving back to the community has long been a company cornerstone. In addition to providing funding and grants for S.T.E.A.M., the Krystal Foundation remains dedicated to keeping extracurricular activities alive in the areas of culinary arts, music, and sports.

“We are eager and excited to continue our program in 2018, and look forward to rewarding the second round of deserving grant recipients,” says Perras. “The work of the Krystal® Foundation is very gratifying because it makes a difference in our community’s schools, and that is what matters the most. Our goal is to be the building blocks behind education initiatives that enrich the lives of our guests and bring opportunities to our schools and neighbors.”

Two years ago, the recognizable Krystal Cruiser toured Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama, making stops in communities to raise funds for local K-12 schools. Last year, the initiative took even greater steps as its “Squaring is Caring” grants provided K-12 schools and non-profit organizations funds to allow them to make additional investments in S.T.E.A.M. education in the classroom.
