Frymaster is leading an industry-wide partnership to provide nonbiased, reliable information about frying and healthy frying practices to restaurant owners and operators.

The group, which includes Bunge Oils, ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston, Dow AgroSciences, The Soyfoods Council, and The Idaho Potato Commission, will launch a Web site next, FitFrying.com, containing information such as oil selection tips, fry station management, and trans-fat legislation.

“We really recognized there was a common interest in these topics among all the groups involved,” says Brenda Fried, vice president of marketing for Frymaster. “All of us have the same objective: to educate and inform the operator on issues that are related to healthier frying. So from that, we started reaching out to other companies that are likeminded, and it evolved from there.”

The highlight of the Web site will be a national map noting areas where trans-fat legislation as well as menu-labeling rulings have gone into effect.

“We hope operators will have the opportunity to have questions answered that they may not have a resource for,” Fried says. “I hope they recognize that frying food healthier does have a place on America’s menus.”
