Lion’s Choiceis introducing a new Healthy Kids’ meal menu that showcases its 45-year legacy for offering health-conscious St. Louisans tasty food that is high in nutrition and naturally low in calories and fat.

“Only recently have national chains begun to embrace the menu philosophy that Lion’s Choice has championed continuously since 1967,” says Mark Disper, vice president of marketing for Lion’s Choice.

With 26.5 grams of protein and just 5.8 grams of fat and 284 calories on an unbuttered bun, our trademark real roast beef sandwich is the leanest in the quick-serve industry. When it comes to nutrition and taste, Lion’s Choice still beats the healthy meals now being touted by others, just like we have for 45 years.”

The Healthy Kids beef sandwich delivers in a smaller serving what parents want: nutritious food that their children will eat because it tastes good.

The best-selling kids’ sandwich has 17 grams of protein with only five grams of fat and 160 calories. Its roast turkey counterpart also has 17 grams of protein with even less fat and fewer calories.

New sides complementing the sandwiches are Gogurt and apple sauce. They augment the raw broccoli, carrot, and celery sticks that are long-time kid’s menu mainstays. The new children’s menu also promotes reduced-fat milk and apple juice over sugary soft drinks.

Likewise, the regular Lion’s Choice menu continues to abound with nutritious options. For instance, the chain has offered side salads and chef salads for decades. A serving of its hearty chili delivers 13.5 grams of protein and just 234 calories. French fries are natural cut, served with the skin on.

To stay ahead of the nutritional curve, the chain continues to pioneer healthy new real food offerings.

“In our test kitchen right now are sandwich and side ideas that advance our taste-good, good-for-you philosophy,” says Bill Nenninger, director of food innovation. “Our pipeline is brimming with delicious, nutritious ideas.”

The chain’s advantage begins with its products. Lion's Choice uses only fresh, domestic, top round roasts–a naturally lean cut. It slow roasts meats daily in each of its stores.

From its first store, opened in Ballwin, Missouri, in 1967 and still operating, privately held Lion’s Choice has grown to 23 corporate and franchise locations in metro St. Louis and eastern Missouri. Fiercely proud of its St. Louis roots, the company currently makes its headquarters in Des Peres, Missouri.
