Mad Property LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Denver-based Mad Greens, will freshen up College Avenue this year.
The fast casual restaurant group, known for its healthy gourmet made-to-order salads, soups, and grilled-to-order panini sandwiches, purchased the former Waffle House location at 616 S. College Avenue on January 12 for $675,000. Construction on building improvements will begin next week, with hopes to reopen as a Mad Greens location in March. This is the company’s second restaurant in Fort Collins. It opened its first location at 2120 E. Harmony Road in 2007.
“Fort Collins has embraced our Harmony Road location,” says Marley Hodgson, CEO of Mad Greens. “We jumped at the chance to open a new location and invest in this great community.”
Mad Greens currently operates eight restaurants in Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins, Colorado, and plans to add two to three additional locations in the next 14 months. This is the first building purchase in the company’s five-year history.
After building improvements, the 2100-square-foot restaurant will seat 65 indoors and 18-24 on its newly designed patio. Most importantly, the 12,000-square-foot lot features 18 parking spaces for Mad Greens customers.
Since opening its first Fort Collins location at Harmony Rd. and Timberline, Mad Greens has contributed volunteer hours, product, and cash donations to local organizations such as Harmony House, Harmony School, Sustainable Living Festival, Dig it Up Festival, and the Nike/24 Hour Fitness 10K. They also plan to participate in this year’s Taste of Fort Collins and to create further partnerships with CSU associations.
“Mad Greens is a great dining option for students and neighbors,” says Nick Christensen, president of Chrisland Commercial Real Estate and listing broker for the deal. “And as a property owner, the restaurant group will be a great partner for the community.”
Prior to opening in Fort Collins, the company will roll out a new Web site to help customers eat even healthier. A new feature calculates the total number of calories in any Mad Greens creation, including any customer-created combination.
