To help commemorate its 40th anniversary, Max & Erma’s restaurants this week are kicking off a summer fundraising drive to benefit local food banks in their neighborhoods.

The Max & Erma’s 40th Anniversary “Food for Families” campaign includes a series of special FUNdraising events, as well as an opportunity for guests to make $1 donations in exchange for a future food discount. The goal is to raise at least $40,000 for food banks serving communities where Max & Erma’s operates.

Starting this week, guests at Max & Erma’s 52 company-owned restaurants will be able to purchase Erma’s Donation Dollars. Guests will sign their cards before they are posted in the restaurants and in exchange they will receive a discount on a future purchase.

Many restaurants also are partnering with their local food banks to hold special FUNdraiser events between now and Labor Day. On designated days, each restaurant will donate 20 percent of the food and beverage orders the food bank supporters make that day. The food banks will provide their supporters with a FUNdraising flyer for the day of the food bank event. Guests must show the FUNdraising flyer to their server for food banks to receive donation credit.

The Max & Erma’s 40th Anniversary Food for Families campaign runs through Labor Day.

“Since our founding 40 years ago, Max and Erma’s has always taken great pride in being a good neighbor,” says Steve Weis, Max & Erma’s president. “Max and Erma themselves were very kind, community-minded people, and we think they would be very pleased that we are celebrating our anniversary this way.”

Food for Families participating restaurants are located in:

  • Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan;
  • Akron, Canton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Toledo, Ohio
  • Indianapolis, Indiana;
