This year, McDonald’s launched a McRib Finder app for iOS and Android phones. Guests can find locations serving the 35-year-old sandwich through an interactive map. They can also swap McRib-themed stickers and plan McRib sandwich dates with friends.
“The McRib is truly an iconic sandwich and has been a fan favorite since its debut on the McDonald’s menu 35 years ago,” said McDonald’s Chef Chad Schafer, in a statement. “Our customers are passionate and tell us they enjoy the sweetness of the barbeque sauce, which pairs perfectly with the hints of pickles and onions. It’s more than a sandwich, it’s a legend and has become an experience for so many to enjoy at McDonald’s.”
The sandwich, made with 100 percent seasoned boneless pork, McDonald’s signature McRib sauce, and served with dill pickles and fresh silvered onions on a toasted hoagie-style bun, hasn’t been on the menu since December 2016. The sandwich’s roots date back to McDonald’s first executive chef, and it first appeared on the menu of a Kansas City, Kansas, restaurant.
The McRib’s return also aligns with the chain’s expanded delivery program. So guests in many markets can order the sandwich via UberEATS and have it sent right to their door.
