Nathan’s Famous, the Official Hot Dog of Major League Baseball, donated a new hot dog cart to the Miracle League of Miami-Dade on Sunday, as well as $1,000 in Publix Super Markets gift cards to use toward filling the cart. The donation was made during a ribbon cutting and inauguration of the new Miracle League of Miami-Dade field at Tamiami Park.

The Miracle League of Miami-Dade is an organization that offers special accommodations for special-needs children to play baseball. The new custom-designed synthetic turf baseball field will provide access for more than 69,000 children and young adults with physical and mental challenges in Miami-Dade County from Homestead to North Miami.

Earlier this year, Nathan’s Famous donated $1,000 worth of groceries and hot dogs for the year to the Miracle League of Miami-Dade. Representatives from Nathan’s Famous presented the new hot dog cart and Publix gift card donations during the field inauguration, and provided children and families coupons and select Coney Island-themed games to play as part of the celebration.

“We are proud to once again support the Miracle League of Miami-Dade as they open this new field,” says Wayne Norbitz, Nathan’s Famous executive board member and former 26-year president. “It’s important to us that we help organizations who are helping others, especially special-needs children.”

The world-famous brand is a devoted sponsor of the PLAY BALL initiative, which is MLB’s collective effort to encourage young people and communities to participate in baseball- or softball-related activities, including formal leagues and events as well as casual forms of play. In particular, the initiative highlights the many ways the game can be played, including activities outside of traditionally organized baseball and softball leagues and tournaments, ranging from playing catch, stickball and participating in skills competitions like “Pitch, Hit & Run.”

Nathan’s Famous is not only the Official Hot Dog of MLB, but also of the Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Official Beef Frank of the Cincinnati Reds.

Smithfield Foods is the licensee of Nathan’s Famous pre-packaged hot dogs, selling a wide variety of beef franks at supermarkets across the country, including natural casing, skinless, bun length, 50 percent reduced fat, angus and more.
