New Togo’s Location Targets Homelessness in California

Togo’s Eateries Inc. announced the opening of its latest company-owned restaurant in Berkeley, California, located at 2172 Shattuck Ave. To celebrate the grand opening, Togo’s aims to raise funds for the Berkeley Food & Housing Project, an organization dedicated to easing and ending the crisis of homelessness for men, women, and children in the Berkeley community. During the first week of operation, guests can receive a free, six-inch sandwich for every $2 donation made to the charity.

“Berkeley represents the perfect market for our sixth corporate-owned restaurant,” says Tony Gioia, chairman and CEO of Togo’s Holdings LLC. “Togo’s is known for its big, fresh, and meaty sandwiches, wraps, salads, and more; and we look forward to providing local residents with our deli inspired one-on-one style service that is synonymous with our brand. With the help of our raving fans, we will be able to bring some much needed funding and support to the Berkeley Food & Housing Project.”

To further celebrate the opening, Togo’s will provide other special offers to guests including their choice of cookie, brownie, or gelato from next door at Almare Gelato during the second week of operation. During the third week, guest who purchases a nine-inch sandwich will receive a free 20 oz. drink.

“We are honored that Togo’s has offered us such generous support as they open their new Berkeley restaurant,” says Jim Huntley, director of advancement at Berkeley Food & Housing Project. “Like Togo’s, The Berkeley Food & Housing Project is passionate about serving the community and this is a great way for Berkeley residents to enjoy some of Togo’s delicious food while supporting a great cause.”

Togo’s in Berkeley will offer online ordering and catering services for in-store pick up.

Recently, Togo’s marked its 40th anniversary with more than 250 locations open on the west coast of the U.S. Even with this latest opening, Togo’s is still seeking to reach 400 new locations in California and other key markets such as Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington state over the next several years.
