The National Restaurant Association is teaming up with USDA to promote “What’s on My Plate?” Day on March 8, designed to heighten public awareness of the importance of choosing foods for a healthy meal. The National Restaurant Association is a national strategic partner with USDA on spreading the word about MyPlate, the new-generation food icon designed to prompt consumers to build healthy plates at meal times.
“The National Restaurant Association is proud to promote the MyPlate message and highlight the restaurant industry’s ongoing contributions to ensuring a healthier America,” says Dawn Sweeney, president and CEO of the National Restaurant Association. “With our Kids LiveWell program of healthful children’s menu items, the National Restaurant Association is a natural MyPlate partner.”
As a national strategic partner on MyPlate communications, the National Restaurant Association works with USDA to promote the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans with easy-to-understand, action-oriented messages. As part of “What’s on My Plate?” Day, the Association is calling on its social media followers to share their own tips using the hashtag #MyPlateYourPlate.
The National Restaurant Association is a MyPlate partner based on the Association’s “Kids LiveWell” initiative. The first-of-its-kind voluntary program focuses on increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and low-fat dairy, and limiting unhealthy fats, sugars and sodium.
