NRA Welcomes New Senior Vice President

The National Restaurant Association announced the appointment of Sherman Brown as senior vice president of business and financial strategy for its ServSafe Food Safety Program.

Sherman has done an outstanding job of running our ServSafe business lines and promoting our brand throughout the years and we are excited to expand his leadership role as senior vice president,” says Phil Kafarakis, chief innovation and member advancement officer. “His experience as a financial and operational strategist in a variety of diverse industries from high-growth, non-profit organizations to Fortune 500 corporations makes Sherman the perfect fit to grow our ServSafe program.”

In his role as senior vice president, Brown will oversee the strategic direction, financial management, and daily operations of the product and services business for ServSafe. He will be accountable for protecting and growing the ServSafe brand and the oversight of training, education, and testing solutions.

The NRA’s ServSafe Program leads the way in providing comprehensive educational materials to the restaurant industry. More than 5 million foodservice professionals have been certified through the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination. ServSafe training and certification is recognized by more federal, state and local jurisdictions than any other food safety certification. Three areas of training are available: ServSafe Food Protection Manager, ServSafe Food Handler, and ServSafe Alcohol.

Previously, Brown served as the NRA’s vice president of finance and strategy where he was responsible for the management and direction of strategic business and financial analysis.

Before joining the NRA in 2010, Brown was the managing director of finance and planning for Shawmut Design and Construction, a national construction management firm based in Boston. He has served in various finance, business development, and strategy roles for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts over a period of 10 years.

Brown holds an MBA from Clark Atlanta University and Bachelors in Finance from Howard University.
