Creating a rich, winter dessert flavor inspired by fine dining desserts, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt introduces its smooth, buttery Salted Caramel froyo. Customers can enjoy this blend of sweet and salty at Orange Leaf’s more than 300 froyo locations across the country.
First created by French chefs, salted caramels are a traditional treat hailing from Brittany, France. More recently, pastry chefs at fine dining restaurants throughout the U.S. have been experimenting with the confection’s flavors to create desserts that blend the sweet and salty tastes. This flavor contradiction is a longstanding American favorite that can be traced back as early as the 1800’s with the introduction of Cracker Jack.
“This year, we are excited to introduce the “Year of the Flavor” at Orange Leaf with a wide variety of new and inspired flavors and products,” says Reese Travis, Orange Leaf CEO. “When developing new flavors, our product innovation team reviews everything from fine dining and dessert trends to franchisee and customer requests that we believe will appeal to our customers’ taste preferences. We think fans will love Salted Caramel, our first flavor introduction of the year, and encourage them to create their own inspired creations with it.”
Customers will be able to invent their own culinary creations with the new Salted Caramel flavor, like all other Orange Leaf froyo flavors, and personalize it for their individual palates by mixing, swirling, dividing, or building any combination of fruit, nuts, candy, and other healthy or decadent treats from the do-it-yourself toppings bar. This also allows customers to control their portion size and nutritional value to fit their dietary needs and taste preferences. To inspire customers’ Salted Caramel creations, Orange Leaf suggests the following “recipe” idea:
Salted Caramel Turtle Crunch: Salted Caramel froyo topped with pretzels, pecans, chocolate sauce, and caramel sauce.
Like Salted Caramel, many of Orange Leaf’s flavors are inspired by classic desserts such as Birthday Cake, Brownie Batter, Pumpkin Pie, and Strawberry Cheesecake. Customers become the chef when creating their own froyo treats first choosing from an average of 16 flavors on rotation in each store that are selected according to customer demand from more than 70 flavors including no-sugar-added, gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan alternatives.
Flavors are subject to change and vary by location, so customers are encouraged to check their store’s web page, or download Orange Leaf’s iPhone or Android app, to check which flavors are available before they visit their local store.
Customers can also purchase pre-packed pint containers or cookie sandwiches filled with Orange Leaf’s Salted Caramel froyo from participating stores.
