This Friday, denizens of the nation’s capital will get their first taste of fast-casual pizza chain, Pie Five Pizza. The concept will unveil its newest restaurant in L’Enfant Plaza Center, one block south of the National Mall, on March 13. Doors open at 7 a.m.

The grand opening marks Pie Five’s fourth location in the greater D.C. market, and its first inside the Beltway to serve up handcrafted, personalized pizzas using fresh ingredients, baked to order at one price. The “five” in Pie Five means it all happens in five minutes or less.

The L’Enfant Plaza restaurant will mark Pie Five’s 39th location in ten states (Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia) plus the District of Columbia, with more than 400 announced company-owned and franchise units under contract in 14 states.

Local franchise owner Alyse Cohen first brought the trend-setting pizza concept to Frederick last August. She has since opened popular locations in Laurel and Sterling. The new D.C. restaurant is one of up to 38 Pie Five franchise units Cohen and her company, ALC Hospitality, plans to open in the area.

“I’m so excited that we are finally ready to make our debut in the Nation’s Capitol,” Cohen says. “We’ve had nothing but rave reviews from our customers in southern Maryland and northern Virginia, and I know our unique combination of fresh, quality ingredients, individually handcrafted pies and fast, friendly service will be welcome here, too. It’s delicious and ideal for on-the-go people, which all of us seem to be these days.”

Also proceeds raised from private training events held at the restaurant this week will go towards Delete Blood Cancer DKMS. The New York–based nonprofit organization works every day to delete blood cancer by inspiring people to register as bone marrow donors in order to provide patients with second chances at life.

“DKMS is an extraordinary organization that has had our support since our first restaurant opened,” Cohen says. “We’re happy to continue partnering with them and look forward to many more opportunities like this in the future.”

Here’s how the Pie Five experience works. As pizza lovers step to the counter, our Pie-artisans help them choose their favorite crust: artisan thin, classic pan, whole grain Neapolitan, or gluten-free thin. Then they can choose from seven sauces, four cheeses, eight meats, and 16 veggies and, best of all, there’s no penalty for piling on; there are more than a million combinations of handcrafted, personal pizzas to choose from.

At the L’Enfant Plaza location only, Pie Five will also be serving up delicious breakfast options like breakfast pizzas with scrambled eggs or egg whites, as well as warm cinnamon rolls. Breakfast will be served weekdays until 10:30 a.m.

Pie Five Pizza has been named among Fast Casual’s 2014 Top 15 “Movers & Shakers,” a 2012 Hot Concepts winner by Nation’s Restaurant News and one of “10 Hot New Restaurant Chains from Established Brands” by Forbes.com.
