Twitter, the micro-blogging platform that challenges users to think in 140 characters or less, is taking the nation by storm, and now Pizza Hut is grabbing a slice of the pie. Today, Pizza Hut announced a search for a new intern within its team that will manage Pizza Hut’s voice on Twitter: introducing the Pizza Hut “Twintern.”

Pizza Hut is searching for an online-savvy applicant to manage the company’s new Twitter page, @PizzaHut, as well as handle additional social media and PR activities. With digital innovations such as Total Mobile Access, e-gift cards, and a Facebook fan page with an ordering widget, Pizza Hut continues to serve as a digital marketing leader. The company is looking forward to welcoming a unique perspective to the team who will serve as the company’s voice on Twitter.

“Pizza Hut recognized the importance of connecting with consumers through social media platforms long ago,” says Amanda Fleming, Pizza Hut chief people officer. “Pizza Hut already has one of the most popular brands on Facebook, with nearly one million fans. We are excited to extend our social media presence to one of the most popular and fastest-growing communications platforms on the Web by adding a key member to our team to help manage our Twitter efforts.”

Applications are now being accepted at pizzahut.com. The Twintern will do more than just keep followers posted on great deals and menu items from Pizza Hut. They’ll also keep a keen eye on pop culture news, off-the-wall stories or anything else quirky and fun that he or she thinks would be of interest to loyal Pizza Hut fans.

“Forward-thinking brands are now on Twitter, whether it’s a CEO tweeting on behalf of a company or a world-class athlete,” Fleming says. “We are committed to making Pizza Hut a truly digital brand, where customers can connect with real team members from the company and participate in real, honest conversation. Twitter is another way for us to make that connection.”

Pizza Hut’s Summer Twinternship will start June 1 and continue for 10-12 weeks. This is a full-time paid internship, and all applicants must be currently enrolled in college to be eligible. Candidates must be available full-time during the summer at Pizza Hut’s Dallas headquarters. For more information on Pizza Hut, log on to pizzahut.com. Pizza Hut, “Now You’re Tweeting.”
