Fiesta Restaurant Group Inc.’s Pollo Tropical, the growing, fast-casual restaurant known for its citrus-marinated, flame-grilled chicken and made-from-scratch sides, has inked a development agreement to open five locations in Guyana. The South American nation’s first Pollo Tropical is slated to open in the fall in the capital city of Georgetown.
The deal between Pollo Tropical and Guyana-based RobCar Investments, Inc., led by Terrence Campbell, was signed in early July. Campbell currently operates 15 restaurants, including Church’s Chicken, Dairy Queen, Quiznos, and Mario’s Pizza. He has also operated multiple FedEx locations in Guyana and Suriname for the past 22 years.
“Terrence is an extremely experienced and successful multi-unit, multi-brand operator in Guyana, and he is an ideal partner for our expansion into Georgetown,” says Danny Meisenheimer, Pollo Tropical COO. “We’ve been seeing a lot of interest in Pollo Tropical in the Caribbean and Latin America, and we hope to open multiple new international locations by 2020.”
Pollo Tropical currently has 35 franchised locations throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Puerto Rico. The company currently has six licensed locations in the U.S. and has plans to grow its domestic franchise program as well, with the goal of eight U.S. franchised locations by 2020.
