Potbelly Picks Peter Ortiz as VP of Franchise Development

  • Industry News January 8, 2019

Potbelly Sandwich Shop has appointed franchising industry veteran Peter Ortiz as Vice President of Franchise Development. In his new role, Ortiz is directing the iconic brand’s strategic franchise expansion across key markets in the United States.

Building on Potbelly’s franchising momentum, which includes several new franchised shops slated to open by mid-2019, Ortiz has set forth an expansion plan to carry the concept into new regions with experienced multi-unit franchisees and development groups that are qualified to scale the Potbelly concept in their markets. Potbelly’s franchising growth is an important initiative to the brand’s evolution, with new-unit franchise expansion playing a key role in the company’s growth strategy.

“Peter’s impressive track record puts us in a strong position to leverage his skills to lead our most aggressive franchise growth strategy to date,” says Jeff Welch, Senior Vice President of Development at Potbelly. “His understanding of the restaurant franchising space and demonstrated ability to develop and execute franchise sales strategies will be integral as we set our sights on continued growth in 2019 and beyond.”

Ortiz brings nearly 30 years of relevant executive-level experience to Potbelly, having previously managed franchise development for leading brands including Moe’s Southwest Grill, Carvel and Schlotzsky’s. An accomplished salesman, over the course of his career Ortiz has secured the sale of major multi-unit deals, helping brands expand into new regions and reach new consumers. In his role with Potbelly, Ortiz oversees all aspects of franchise development.

“Potbelly has unmatched growth potential in the competitive fast casual sandwich sector,” adds Ortiz. “I’m excited to join the franchise team and lead development for such an impressive brand.”

Franchisees are attracted to the brand’s market availability and scalability, innovative menu options that drive sales, multiple channels of operation including catering, and flexible footprint opportunities, which increase options for site selection.

As Potbelly continues to expand across the United States, the brand is awarding franchise opportunities to qualified multi-unit groups who are looking to add another successful segment to their portfolio.
