Potbelly Sandwich Shop announced a signed agreement that will soon bring North Carolina’s first shop. Currently slated to open this winter, the shop is in development at Greensboro’s Westover Gallery of Shops, which is at 1310 Westover Terrace. The neighborhood hangout is slated to debut its signature sandwiches, hand-dipped milkshakes, and live music in December.
Potbelly shops have earned a reputation in communities across the U.S. for the food, fun décor, and fresh tunes. Carter Spradling, the new sandwich shop’s operating partner, is a Greensboro native and one of Potbelly’s biggest fans.
“My wife and I have been talking about bringing Potbelly to Greensboro for the longest time. We are thrilled to see this idea become a reality,” Spradling says. “I grew up in Greensboro and love everything about it; now my favorite restaurant will be here, too.”
Spradling will manage the restaurant’s day-to-day operations. Plus, he will handle new staff recruitment and will book local musicians when the unit opens this winter.
“Every time I travel, I have to make a stop at Potbelly. The restaurant has unbeatable service and great food that keeps me coming back,” Spradling says. “More specifically, the Italian sandwich motivates my many visits.”
Greenboro’s first Potbelly Sandwich Shop will hire about 10 staff members, including customer service and managers. The restaurant’s operation and delivery hours will be announced at a later date.
“Carter and his team are an ideal addition to the Potbelly family. We are thrilled with their excitement for the shop,” says Mike Walters, head of franchise development for Potbelly Sandwich Shop. “Every new sandwich shop is designed to resemble the community it resides in. Carter has the deep-rooted community connections Potbelly looks for when choosing franchise partners.”
Potbelly Sandwich Shop first opened in Chicago in 1977, and now includes more than 300 shops across the U.S. There are also 20-plus franchise shops in the U.S. and abroad, and the company is projecting more franchised shops to open in 2014.
