QSR magazine won the 2017 Magazine of the Year Award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE), the top honor given by the professional association. The awards, known as the Azbee Awards of Excellence, were announced Thursday at ASPBE’s annual conference at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida. Highly competitive, the Azbees recognize outstanding writing and design in business-to-business magazines, newsletters, and digital media. The Magazine of the Year Award is presented in two divisions determined by revenue; QSR was the top winner in the over $3 million revenue class. Judging is based on five criteria: the quality of writing, reporting, and editing; value and usefulness to the reader; editorial organization; interaction with readers; and layout and design.
In making the award to QSR, judges praised the magazine for its “stellar audience engagement with online exclusives, social media, and video. It features clever writing and a variety of stories. It also shows evidence of strong data collection, and provides many useful tips for readers. The design is clean and consistent, and the editorial is well organized.”
QSR, the leading source of news and information about the limited-service restaurant sector, encompasses far more than simply traditional fast-food brands. Viewed more broadly, the quick-service segment is about limited-service restaurants, and QSR is the authoritative voice of limited service in all its forms, from fast food to fast casual to snack and beverage concepts and all points in between. Always on the cutting edge of limited-service growth, in the last year QSR has identified and provided extensive coverage of a new segment called Fast Casual 2.0, the rule-breaking, chef-driven concepts that are transforming the industry.
“Winning this year’s Azbee Award for Magazine of the Year is a wonderful honor,” says Sam Oches, QSR editor and a frequent media commentator on the quick-service industry. “This is an exciting time for our industry and we’re proud to be at the forefront, identifying the diverse innovators who are taking the quick-service model to the next level and sharing their stories with our readers.”
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2017, QSR magazine and its website, QSRmagazine.com, are the leading sources of news and information about the limited-service restaurant sector, which includes traditional fast food, fast casual, coffee, snacks, concessions, convenience stores, and related segments of the foodservice industry.
