Quaker Steak & Lube Serves Up Its Billionth Chicken Wing

The award-winning franchise Quaker Steak & Lube, known for its Best Wings USA and more than 20 sauces, made history as it served up the company’s billionth chicken wing at the Plano Lube “Hard Hat” & Billionth Wing Party on November 15.

The private event, attended by more than 200 VIPs, celebrated the brand’s expansion into the Plano, Texas, market. The restaurant will open to the public in January 2013.

During the exclusive event, Lubies enjoyed The Lube’s award-winning food and signature drinks as they learned all about the cult-like fan following of The Lube.

Plano dignitaries in attendance included current Plano Mayor Phil Dyer and former Plano Mayor and president and CEO of Quaker Steak & LubeJohn Longstreet.

Attendees also took part in the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the newly elected Mayor of Lube Nation, Ken Rumbaugh, as he made history eating the company’s billionth chicken wing.

“Eating the billionth wing was an absolute honor and privilege,” Rumbaugh says. “I am so proud to be the Mayor of Lube Nation.”

Longstreet adds, “As a former Mayor of Plano, I was thrilled to bring the ‘Hard Hat’ & Billionth Wing Party to the Plano Lube. We truly made history when our newly elected Mayor of Lube Nation Ken Rumbaugh ate our billionth wing, and we are ecstatic to launch the Plano Lube in January while continuing our Texas takeover.”

The Plano restaurant will create close to 200 jobs for the area and will be the third Quaker Steak & Lube location in Texas. 

The new Lube will encompass an 8,000-square-foot design while accommodating seating for more than 360 people, including a 1,000-square-foot brickyard patio, two full-service bars, and more than 34 flat-screen TVs.

This past June, the company launched its Texas invasion and announced plans to open 10 new restaurants throughout the area, two of which are currently open in Carrollton and Waco, Texas.  

Quaker Steak & Lube has quickly become one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in the country. The company is on track to open 12 restaurants this year and another 12 in 2013.  

The brand has signed development agreements in six new markets with five new franchise groups. Quaker Steak & Lube has close to 60 locations open across 18 states and Canada.

The compelling décor, including race cars suspended from the ceilings, motorcycles, Corvettes, and gas station memorabilia, combined with its crave-able food and supercharged events, has created a cult-like following for The Lube, as fans call it, for more than 38 years. 

Collectively, the company serves more than 80 million wings annually along with burgers, ribs, steaks, salads, sandwiches, kid’s meals, signature beverages, and many more flavorful menu items.  

The Lube is also known for creative food promotions and recently won the coveted MenuMasters award for its limited-time offer, Shake, Wrap & Roll.  

Hand-crafted and hand-shaken beverages are also featured on the Blowout Beverages menu, including the industry 2012 Cheers Beverage Award-Winning Bar Jars.
