Quiznos today announced that it will be a “Freedom Sponsor” of the National Federation of the Blind’s March for Independence, to be held July 2, 2008, in Dallas, Texas. Over one thousand blind Americans, their friends and families, and supporters will join in the second annual March for Independence titled “The Walk for Opportunity” to support the Federation’s Imagination Fund campaign, which brings educational and skill development opportunities to the blind.
“Quiznos is proud to partner with the National Federation of the Blind in supporting this year’s March for Independence,” says Clyde Rucker, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Quiznos. “We recognize the impact of the spirit of the nation’s organized blind and are honored to walk alongside the Federationists in celebration of their independence and to assist in the creation of opportunities.”
The March for Independence is a 5K walk-a-thon and will raise money for the Imagination Fund and its local and state-level efforts to increase public awareness of the true capabilities of blind people. The National Association of Blind Merchants (a division of the National Federation of the Blind) will host this year’s march with The March for Independence taking place amidst the 68th National Federation of the Blind annual convention in Dallas, Texas.
Says Dr. Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind, “The March for Independence is our way of demonstrating to the public that we are equal participants in society and that we are determined to make for ourselves a future full of opportunity. We are pleased that Quiznos has joined us in this effort and we look forward to working together in the future.”
