Salata Salad Kitchen has announced the hiring of David Wheeler as chief development officer of the company. Wheeler is the first official chief development officer at Salata.

Previously, Wheeler served as a consultant for Salata for four months. During this time, Wheeler led processes and procedures for franchise sales and development, helped to onboard a new customer relationship management (CRM) system and digital interactive market planning program, conducted a comprehensive analysis of existing franchisees, and helped to develop a new franchise sales website.

In his new role as chief development officer, Wheeler’s responsibilities will grow to include  developing new markets and assisting in the strategic direction of the company as a member of Salata’s executive team. Wheeler plans to implement systems and procedures that will deliver  efficiencies when building out restaurants and driving franchise sales. He also aims to secure an unprecedented number of new franchise locations in existing and new markets for Salata in 2019 and each year going forward.

“The addition of David Wheeler as Salata’s chief development officer is paramount to Salata’s growth,” says Michelle Bythewood, president of Salata. “David’s drive and proven track record make him the perfect person for the role. His franchise sales and development expertise is invaluable to our team and our business. David has already been pivotal in our organization’s growth plan for 2019 and beyond.”

Wheeler’s time as a consultant for Salata allowed him to become immersed in the business and develop immediate, actionable goals as chief development officer.

“It is a privilege for me to join the Salata family as we embark on exponential growth,” says Wheeler. “This fast-casual concept is unlike any I have worked on in my 25 years in the industry. It is already an exciting journey as we are introducing more and more markets and communities to the unique Salata experience. I have high expectations for this organization, and for myself in growing this organization.”

Prior to joining Salata, Wheeler served as chief development officer for Focus Brands/Schlotzsky’s where he was named the 2012 Salesperson of the Year, vice president of business development for Campero USA, business development director for The Krystal Company, and director of business development at Boston Pizza Restaurants. Additionally, Wheeler was the president and founder of GoNuts Franchise Group, a food specialty retail start-up for niche food-specialty QSRs located in high-end shopping malls and other non-traditional venues.
