Sani Professional, the food safety division of Professional Disposables International (PDI), announced the launch of the Sani Professional Food Safety Advisory Council (SPFSAC).  Recognizing the critical nature of food safety in today’s broader foodservice industry, the SPFSAC is dedicated to raising awareness of best practices in the prevention of foodborne illness across a broad spectrum of foodservice operations via education and solution support. According to Centers for Disease Control estimates, roughly one in six Americans—or 48 million people—gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases each year.

The advisory council incudes a wide range of experts in the areas of food safety and quality across the foodservice industry, including Stefano Caligiuri, food safety director of MGM Resorts and chair of the Nevada Food Safety Task Force; Mick Miklos, senior program compliance of the National Restaurant Association; Belicia Parga, field quality assurance coordinator for Whataburger; and Clement Saseun, director of quality assurance for DineEquity Inc.

The SPFSAC provides input and expertise on a broad range of food safety issues, including food code compliance.  Moreover, the council assists in raising awareness and promoting continuous improvement in matters related to preventing foodborne illness.  In conjunction with raising awareness, the SPFSAC will also formally recognize organizations and individuals who demonstrate excellence in food safety training and practices annually beginning in spring 2015. Council members will meet quarterly and serve a two-year term.
