The Annual Schlotzsky’s Bun Run is back by popular demand, thanks to Schlotzsky’s and race sponsors RunTex, Mix 94.7 FM, Majic 95.5 FM, Talk Radio 1370 AM, and the Young Men’s Business League of Austin (YMBL). And once again, the sponsors are leaving the look of the Bun Run T-shirt up to the public.
Now through Thurs., Feb. 28, voters can pick their favorite design at www.bunrun.com. Participants will automatically be entered in a random drawing to win one of 10 free Bun Run race entries, valued at $28 each.*
Want to wear a peace-lovin’ Schlotzsky’s Fresh-from-Scratch hippie bun? How about a thumbs-up smilin’ bun, victorious running buns, or even a Texas-sized bun? Artists from a variety of locales put their handiwork to the test, but the finalists come from places as close as Austin, Texas, and as far away as Norman, Oklahoma, and San Diego and Rancho Santa Margarita, California. The winning artist will receive $1,000 and recognition at the race on May 3–and of course, thousands of race participants and volunteers will sport the selected masterpiece.
The city’s longest-running 5K, the Annual Schlotzsky’s Bun Run hosts an average of 5,000 participants and raises an average of $50,000 for Austin Sunshine Camps, YMBL’s program that sends at-risk and disadvantaged youths to summer camp to learn about leadership, team-building and trust.
