    S&D Releases Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility Report

    America’s largest custom coffee roaster, S&D Coffee & Tea, released its first Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility Report detailing the company’s core commitments, current initiatives, and forthcoming goals. This benchmark report is being released to coincide with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Symposium and Exposition being held April 23–27 in Seattle, Washington.

    “S&D has, from its inception, placed a high value on efficiency, accountability, and positive partnerships,” says vice president of sustainability and strategic initiatives Tracy Ging. “We have now spelled out a specific, three-year strategy of intentional efforts to increase our contributions to sustainability, and we’re looking forward to implementing the various steps in our strategy.”

    Included in S&D’s three-year goals are zero-waste-to-landfill status, expanded wellness and education programs for employees, and use of third-party systems to ensure environmental, socioeconomic and quality standards in developing countries. The company has also set a goal to achieve a 20 percent company-wide reduction in water and energy usage by 2020.

    “We have an 85-year history of innovation, best practices and mutually beneficial relationships,” says chairman of the board, president, and CEO Ron Hinson. “As we move toward our centennial mark, we’ll continue probing every opportunity to demonstrate that S&D is absolutely America’s Smartest Coffee & Tea Company—in everything from sourcing to production.”
