To celebrate Shake Shack’s opening of its newest location in Little Italy, acclaimed ‘left coast’ eatery Juniper & Ivy has teamed up with the brand to create a limited edition “ShackMeister” burger available at the restaurant from April 22–28.
Executive Chef Anthony Wells is no stranger to creativity with his ever-changing menu at the Little Italy fine dining institution, Juniper & Ivy. With an affinity for modern cuisine and flavors that push the boundaries of what is expected, the partnership between Juniper & Ivy and Shake Shack is kismet.
The “ShackMeister” burger features two housemade patties made from a mix of hanger, short rib and chuck from Flannery Beef, stacked on a house-fermented potato roll and topped with beer-infused raclette cheese. Shallots pickled overnight in Hoppy Dank Ale from local brewery Modern Times grace the top of the burger and is then finished with a rendition of the traditional “Shack Sauce” made from ketchup, bread and butter pickles, whole grain mustard and apple cider vinegar for a true tang.
The burger will also include Juniper & Ivy’s take on the signature crinkle cut fries, using freshly cut potatoes. Diners can also pair the burger with a can of the Modern Times Hoppy Dank ale, or a pint on tap at Juniper & Ivy all month long to continue the San Diego mashup excitement.
Chef Wells has taken the comforting experience of a classic cheeseburger and turned it upside down with new textures, flavors and techniques to create something that is equal parts unexpected, delicious and thought provoking. As the culinary scene continues to heat up in San Diego, the juxtaposition of high-end dining with a gourmet comfort food aims to give locals and visitors alike a taste of the city’s sense of community, collaboration and creativity in cuisine.
