Shane's Breaks Ground in Alabama


Shane’s Rib Shack, a Petrus Brands company and the country’s fast-casual barbecue concept leader with 66 restaurants in 12 states, announced the grand opening of its first restaurant in the state of Alabama. 

The first Alabama Shane’s will open in Birmingham, on Friday, April 15, 2011, and is owned by Birmingham natives Carl Hess (CEO) and Ron Woodis (COO) of the Restaurant Collective, which owns the franchising rights to develop Shane’s restaurants in Alabama and Mississippi. 

“We chose our native Birmingham for our first Shane’s Rib Shack location because people here have an appetite for great BBQ, and Shane's community value system is in line with how we feel about our city,” Hess says.  “We decided to become a Shane’s franchisee because we loved the food, and we’re excited about the opportunity to bring the Shane’s brand to Alabama.”

The Birmingham opening is part of Shane’s overall growth strategy for 2011, which includes filling existing core markets such as Georgia and Florida and expanding to new contiguous markets such as Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. In addition, growth plans include expansion with multi-unit operators in major DMA’s east of the Mississippi.
