Slapfish, the largest and fastest growing fast-casual seafood restaurant in North America, announced a multi-unit deal with experienced franchisees, father-and-son duo Brandon and Charles Bengel, and Les Hatter to bring the brand’s mouthwatering, Instagram-worthy dishes and proven concept to communities across Florida, starting with Orlando.

“Operating in the fast-casual burger segment for many years, we know that with an oversaturation of brands offering sandwiches and burgers, it can be difficult to expand and find prime real estate within that segment,” said Hatter, Franchisee. “In addition to offering high-quality, sustainable seafood, Slapfish has little competition in the fast-casual seafood segment, creating incredible opportunities for franchisees looking to expand their portfolio. We are so confident in the success of the brand we have invested in franchising rights across the state.”

Orlando will be the first of many Slapfish locations in Florida as the restaurant continues to expand. There are more than 150 Slapfish locations in development nationwide.

Founded by celebrity chef Andrew Gruel in 2011, Slapfish started as a food truck in California offering boat-to-plate cuisine. Since that time, it has grown to more than 14 brick-and-mortar locations from East Coast to West Coast. With a fresh attitude, simple flavors and a healthy smack of gourmet, Slapfish has made sustainable American seafood approachable and affordable. Signature menu items include the ‘lobsticle,’ Baja mahi sandwich and house-made, original dipping sauces. The fast-growing brand was featured in Food & Wine Magazine as one of the “7 Most Eco-Minded Restaurants,” named one of the “Best Restaurants for Lobster in Orange County” and has also been featured on the Food Network, PBS and The Today Show.

“Seafood consumption is increasing thanks in part to its great taste and an increased understanding of its health benefits. We’re offering a solution to that increased demand while seeking to redefine the entire seafood dining experience,” says Chef Andrew Gruel, founder and CEO of Slapfish. “Planting roots in Orlando is a meaningful step in our quest to reach seafood-lovers all over the country. Brandon, Charles, and Les are business-savvy, experienced restauranteurs, making them the ideal team to bring Slapfish to Florida, starting in Orlando.”

The first Slapfish location in Florida will be located at 783 N. Alafaya Trail and the new 2,500 square foot location, adjacent to the popular Waterford Lakes Town Center movie theatre, will be giving away 100 free lobster rolls on opening day.

Slapfish has partnered with Fransmart, the industry leading franchise development company behind the explosive growth of brands like Five Guys Burgers and Fries, The Halal Guys and Qdoba Mexican Grill, as their exclusive franchise development partner to grow the brand in major U.S. markets.
