Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q announced it has “adopted” US Navy EOD Mobile Unit Three, a military unit deployed to southern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The company plans on sending the unit a care package every month filled with cards, magazines, food, and other items the soldiers would enjoy.
The company became aware of the unit through their Facebook fan page, when one of the unit’s soldiers commented on how much he missed Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q sent the unit t-shirts and two cases of hushpuppy mix. The unit prepared the hushpuppies at their Memorial Day Cookout and “enjoyed having a taste of home,” according to the soldiers.
“We were so touched by the soldier’s excitement and appreciation that we have decided to adopt his unit,” said Richard Averitte, Marketing Director, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q. “We want to let them know we appreciate all they do in serving our country,” he says.
