With $50,000 in sales in its first week of operation, the new Back Yard Burgers, Inc. (BYBI-Nasdaq) restaurant in Independence, Missouri, has set a record for the chain.

No other location in the companies history has had such an impressive opening week, according to Ray Jones, director of franchise development.

“We were excited by the spectacular launch of the new restaurant in Independence,” Jones said. “Any restaurant that does $50,000 in sales in its first week of operations is literally doing red-hot business. Best Burgers, Inc., which now operates two quick-serve restaurants in the city, should be proud of this achievement.”

Jones also announced the signing of new franchise development agreements and store openings in four other states: Texas, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. That makes 45 Back Yard Burgers locations under contract for development in the next five years.

“Back Yard Burgers is confident that the tremendous growth we have seen in the first months of 2000 will be reflected in future expansions in the 16 states where Back Yard Burgers operates,” said Lattimore Michael, founder and CEO.
