Each year Penn Station East Coast Subs
searches the Miami Valley area for high school seniors who excel in the classroom and on the field. The sub shop chooses one student at the end of the year and awards him or her with a $5,000 college scholarship for academic and athletic excellence.

This year the $5,000 Penn Station Athlete of the Year scholarship went to Austen Brower of Bellbrook High School. Brower represents his school in soccer and wrestling. He is also involved in student government, National Honor Society, Model United Nations, Wright
State Action Team, Key Club, Link Crew, and Project Charlie.

Tom Bean, Bellbrook High School’s athletic director, says, “Austen is an exceptional
student athlete at Bellbrook High School and is an outstanding leader within the school, his team, and amongst his peers. He strives to be the best with all his endeavors, in and out of the classroom, and on the wrestling mats. He leads with character, hard work, ethics, and sportsmanship.” After graduation, Austen plans to attend William & Mary and study International Relations/Affairs.

Penn Station East Coast Subs launched the “Penn Station Athlete of the Month” program in 1998. Since then, Penn Station East Coast Subs has awarded more than $100,000 in award money and college scholarships. Ninety-six students have been named “athlete of the month,” and 12 have received $5,000 college scholarships.

“We designed this program to reward both the school and the student,” says John Dorger,
managing owner of Penn Station Dayton. “It has been extremely gratifying to watch these students grow into adults and know that we are helping them go on to college. Every year it gets harder to pick from so many great students. A special thanks goes out to PSAM program sponsors: WDTN/Channel 2, Fly 92.9 radio, and Hot 102.9 radio. They have embraced this program whole-heartedly, and we thank them for their continued support.”
