A new staple is being introduced to the world of tailgating. Macaroni and cheese, the classic comfort food, will soon be available to Wolverine fans thanks to a recently signed development deal between Sweet Lorraine’s Fabulous Mac n’ Cheez! and the University of Michigan.

Set to open the first location in the Big House (Michigan Stadium) by the first home game on September 12, Sweet Lorraine’s Fabulous Mac n’ Cheez will also be opening locations in the Crisler Center and the Yost Ice Arena.

“The opportunity presented itself to build a lasting relationship with the longstanding Michigan favorite and we jumped at the chance to take it,” says Gary Sussman, CEO of Sweet Lorraine’s Fabulous Mac n’ Cheez “The university wanted a local concept that could provide more than hot dogs and nachos and we are confident that mac n’ cheese will hit the spot that Wolverine fans are looking for.”

Sweet Lorraine’s will have two kiosks in the nation’s largest football stadium. The Main Level kiosk will serve Classic Mac, Bacon Cheddar Mac, and Pesto Mac. The Jack Roth Club Level will feature a similar menu but will also include Sweet Lorraine’s Lobster BLT Mac.

A “brick and motor” location will open in the Crisler Center with a similar menu to the Big House’s main level kiosk. Plans for the Yost Ice Arena’s location and menu are being finalized.

Founded in 2010 and franchising since 2013, the Detroit-based restaurant chain offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free soups, salads, sandwich wraps, grilled cheese, and 14 different kinds of meat-topped and vegetarian macaroni and cheese, all made fresh to order.

All the dishes start with twisted curly noodles made from 100 percent durum wheat, which Italians insist on using for their pasta. The noodles are tossed in “ooey-gooey” cheese sauce that Sweet Lorraine’s makes using locally sourced cheddar cheese. Once they’ve have had a chance to frolic in the sauce, diners can customize their dish, before it is broiled to “bubbly perfection.”

"Customers are looking for fun, high-quality food on the go that is also going to satisfy their craving for the classics,” says founder and award-winning Chef Lorraine Platman. “I've spent 30 years perfecting my distinctive and delicious macaroni and cheese recipes, and I can’t wait to share them with Wolverine fans.”

Sweet Lorraine’s Fabulous Mac n’ Cheez! is currently pursuing additional universities, student unions, and airports as partners. Sweet Lorraine’s has four locations currently open and operating throughout Michigan and plans to open a location in Vernon Hills, Illinois, this October. Locations in Midtown, Detroit, and Toledo, Ohio, are also set to open by the end of this year.
