Last year marked the debut of Taco Bell’s Toasted Cheddar Chalupa—a decadent, upgraded version of Taco Bell’s iconic Chalupa featuring 6-month aged cheddar toasted onto the shell. Most recently this instant fan favorite returned to menus in Canada, and is now making its way back to the U.S. starting November 5 for a limited time, alongside a brand-new, vegetarian counterpart: the Black Bean Toasted Cheddar Chalupa.

In 2021, you can expect the brand to release more official vegetarian versions of their innovative limited-time menu offers.

This new Chalupa is certified vegetarian by the American Vegetarian Association (AVA) and features all the craveable flavors of the original, but with the plant-based protein of Taco Bell’s signature black beans rather than seasoned beef, grilled chicken, or marinated steak.

Fun fact, before the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa was developed, the classic Chalupa was the menu item that fans had most frequently swapped out meat for beans through customization!

This will be part of the new Veggie Cravings Menu — which includes two other entirely new menu items: the Black Bean Chalupa and Veggie Nachos Party Pack. These join 13 existing vegetarian items, creating a dedicated space that makes it simple to pick and choose from AVA-certified options via Taco Bell’s website and app.

Taco Bell has always been a leader in vegetarian innovation making it the go-to destination for customers of all lifestyles.
