Taco John’s Serves Up Support for Injured Soldiers

Members of the U.S. military who have been badly wounded in combat are receiving some extra help this holiday season from Taco John’s International. The Mexican fast-food chain is donating a portion of each Nachos Navidad purchase between now and December 29 to the Yellow Ribbon Fund. The non-profit organization helps soldiers who are recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center.

“We help those who are severely injured—those who lost limbs or who are suffering from traumatic brain injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This donation will help us provide free hotel rooms, rental cars, and taxi rides, so family members can be close to their loved one during his or her recovery,” says Mark Robbins, executive director of the Yellow Ribbon Fund. “We’re very thankful for the support of Taco John’s. This donation will impact hundreds of soldiers and their families.”

“The activities and the things the Yellow Ribbon Fund has provided have been really beneficial for me personally, which in return is helpful for my son," says Linda Herrick, the mother of an injured soldier. “I think it's amazing Taco John's is willing to help families like ours.”

Taco John’s is working to send more than just financial support. It has also launched a campaign inviting people to send messages to injured troops. The words of thanks and encouragement may be posted online or submitted by texting TROOPS to 35880. The messages will be printed onto a large banner and presented to the recovering soldiers in January.

“We owe so much to the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces,” says Renée Middleton, vice president for marketing at Taco John’s. “We’re excited to work with the Yellow Ribbon Fund and honored to support the injured members of our military who are facing a long road home.”

This is the 18th year Taco John’s is offering Nachos Navidad during the holidays and donating a portion of the sales. Over the years, Taco John’s has supported a variety of charitable causes both locally and regionally. Last year, Taco John’s donated $50,000 to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which provided approximately 160 hotel room nights, 650 cab rides, and 1,000 rental car days for the families of injured soldiers.
