White Castle opens its newest location in the Chicago area on Monday, December 3, 2001 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. The store is located at 76 South Randall Road in Batavia, Illinois.
This is the first White Castle to open in the city of Batavia. There are now sixty-six White Castle locations in operation in the Chicago area, including several in northwestern Indiana. The first White Castle in the area opened in 1929 at 2501 East 79th Street in Chicago; it closed in 1974.
The restaurant chain is based in Columbus, Ohio, and operates 354 restaurants in 11 states. The company was founded in Wichita, Kansas in 1921, and was the first fast-food hamburger chain.
