White Castle opened its newest location in the Chicago area on Monday, June 19 at 9 a.m. The store is located at 7550 North Harlem in Chicago. With the addition of this restaurant, there are now 60 White Castle locations in operation in the Chicago area, including several in northwestern Indiana.
White Castle now operates 346 restaurants in 12 states. White Castle first became a part of the Chicago community in July 1929, when a restaurant was opened at 2501 East 79th Street in Chicago. This location was closed in 1974. The company was founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921, and was the first fast food restaurant chain.
