White Castle is ready to shine a bright light on the city of Whiting, Ind., a new Craver Hall of Fame inductee, for being a nourishing partner and loyal community. White Castle has been serving Whiting residents since 1935 when it opened a Castle on Indianapolis Blvd., the company’s first Castle in the entire Chicagoland region.

On Tuesday, March 12, White Castle is hosting Whiting Appreciation Day, and Cravers visiting the Whiting Castle between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. will receive one free Original Slider (no purchase necessary). A limited number of commemorative Cravers Hall of Fame T-shirts exclusive to the Whiting Castle will be available for purchase. White Castle will donate all net proceeds from t-shirt sales on Tuesday to GiGi’s Playhouse Tinley Park, Ill., an achievement center providing programming and support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

“We value our partnerships with the city of Whiting and this is our way of celebrating a community that has been committed to the way of the Crave for nearly nine decades,” says Jamie Richardson, vice president at White Castle. “The free Original Slider gives us a hot and tasty way to celebrate and say thank you.”

The city of Whiting earlier this year became the first city to be inducted into White Castle’s exclusive Cravers Hall of Fame, created in 2001 to recognize the brand’s most zealous fans. The original White Castle at 1879 Indianapolis Blvd. in Whiting was the oldest in the Chicago region. The city landmark served generations of families before it was retired from service on March 28, 2023. A new, larger and more modern White Castle took its place and attracted a huge turnout at the grand opening on June 7, 2023. Portions of the porcelain panels from the original Whiting Castle façade are now on display at the Illinois Railway Museum.

Media will have an opportunity to speak with Whiting Mayor Steven Spebar, who will make an appearance to help celebrate the event, at 8 a.m. There will also be opportunities to speak with White Castle team members and the loyal Cravers visiting the Whiting Castle who helped the city get inducted into the Cravers Hall of Fame.
