Wingstop nominated Drew Heilman of Burleson as its sixth 2013–14 High School Scholar Athlete of the Month’, a program also sponsored by KTVT-TV CBS.

Heilman attends Centennial High School, where he serves as captain of the soccer team, ranks sixth in his senior class, and is a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of NASA’s 2013 Texas Aerospace Scholar. He also founded the high school’s engineering club and serves as its acting president.

“The Wingstop High School Scholar Athlete of the Month program is way of giving back to our community and honoring the most talented, hard-working young people in the DFW-area,” says Rex Heckelman, president of the Wingstop Dallas–Fort Worth advertising co-op. “Drew has dedicated much of his time actively as a student and as a scholar. He’s an outstanding role model, and we couldn’t be happier to recognize the impact he has made as a student and as an athlete over the past four years.”

In addition to his success on the field and in the classroom, Heilman volunteers in his community, mentoring special needs children, referring youth soccer, serving as a National League of Cities 2013 Summit delegate, and working with the City of Burleson Economic Development Corporation. Heilman plans to major in chemical engineering and hopes to attend either Texas A&M, MIT, or University of Texas.

Each month, Wingstop and Dallas’ CBS 11 invite viewers, athletic directors, coaches, and members of the community to nominate exceptional athletes from the Metroplex to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Wingstop. The scholarship initiative was launched two years ago by the Wingstop Dallas–Fort Worth co-op, which includes more than 75 restaurants throughout the North Texas region.
