On September 22, SDC development agent Larry Feldman, along with his SDC staff and franchisees, held their yearly fundraising drive with the 12th Annual Subway Charity Golf Classic Tournament at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton, Virginia. At this year's tournament, SDC raised $220,000 for the American Cancer Society, marking a key milestone as $1.3 million has been raised to date.
"Subway Development Corporation is proud to be able to make this donation to the American Cancer Society,” Feldman says. "With over 190,000 new cases of breast cancer in 2009, we continue to be passionate towards our fight against this disease.”
In addition to the golf tournament, fundraising efforts were started in June at each of the nearly 1,100 Subway stores in the region. Over the past three months, thousands of customers purchased pink ribbons for $1 each at local Subway stores to create awareness about the risks of breast cancer. Through the sale of the pink ribbons alone, Subway was able to raise $190,000.
"We are very thankful to the Subway Development Corporation, who has been dedicated to supporting and contributing towards our research, services, and education efforts year after year,” says Karen Brav, the American Cancer Society's development director. "It's great to hear that even despite the economic difficulties, Subway and the tournament's participants felt that this was a worthy enough cause to continue to raise awareness.”
