Papa John's International, Inc. (Nasdaq: PZZA)
today announced systemwide, domestic comparable sales for the four weeks ended February 25, 2001 increased
8.9%, comprised of a 7.8% increase at company-owned restaurants and a 9.3% increase at franchised restaurants.
Comparable sales for February, and for the first quarter overall, benefited from the timing of the company's national
Anniversary promotion which ran during January and February this year; last year, the promotion ran during the
second quarter. Total systemwide international sales during February increased 20.9% over the prior year on a
constant U.S. dollar basis.
"This year is off to a great start,'' said John H. Schnatter, founder and chief executive officer. "With Papa John's
recently being ranked first in customer satisfaction nationally among all fast food concepts in the American
Customer Satisfaction Index, our system really has a lot of momentum. Running nearly 9% positive comps during
February, with an industry leading $15,100 per store average among our comp base restaurants and in what
continues to be a very competitive marketplace, is a testimony to the strength of our brand and our people.''
