When Arianne Bennett opened the Amsterdam Falafelshop in Washington, D.C., in 2004, she had some ambitious sustainability aims: green products, solar power, composting, community dumpsters. She had a vision of creating her own eco-friendly utopia in a world only then beginning to ride the sustainability wave, an adventure then entwined with environmental stewardship.

“We wanted to be as lean as possible … and we were careful about everything from the packaging we chose to the number of napkins we distributed,” Bennett says.

Doc Popcorn Announces Franchise Plans in Mexico

Doc Popcorn, the flavored popcorn franchise, announced its first expansion abroad through the signing of an agreement for 60 units in Mexico.

The international development will be led by franchise partners René Garza Peña and his wife Mariana Mendoza Garza and operating partner José Antonio Cazares Aguirre, who have all signed a master franchise agreement with Doc Popcorn. The first Doc Popcorn location is expected to open in 2014 in their hometown of Monterrey, the capital city of the northeastern state of Nuevo León and the third-largest metropolitan area in Mexico.

Doc Popcorn Expands into Palace Entertainment Venues

Doc Popcorn plans to open approximately 15 new locations in Palace Entertainment venues across the country. The announcement follows the success of Doc Popcorn’s first PopCart unit at the Lake Compounce Amusement Park, a Palace Entertainment venue located in Bristol, Conneticut.

Palace Entertainment is one of the leading leisure park operators in the country, hosting over 13 million visitors annually at 40 locations across the United States.

Doc Popcorn's 100th Agreement Taking Brand to Oklahoma

Capitalizing on the $1.7 billion industry and gourmet popcorn trend, Doc Popcorn announced the awarding of its 100th franchise agreement, signifying a new company milestone for the rapidly expanding snack brand that began franchising its concept less than four years ago.

The popcorn franchise awarded the 100th agreement to Dolphus and Alma Chancy of Claremore, Oklahoma, residents who previously worked together for 25 years in the wood manufacturing business. This will be the first presence for Doc Popcorn in Oklahoma.
