Captain D’s, the leading fast-casual seafood restaurant, announced it achieved 5.2 percent same-store sales growth for the second quarter of 2015, marking the company’s 15th consecutive quarter of positive growth. A primary driving force behind the brand’s continued success is its ongoing menu innovation and restaurant redesign. Most recently, Captain D’s unveiled a variety of new dishes and re-invented old favorites such as its Home-Style Fish Tenders and Crispy Flounder Meal, and has re-branded a total of 175 restaurants in its new design. Furthermore, Captain D’s was recognized by The Tennessean as a recipient of the 2015 Top Workplaces award, naming the company one of the top 10 employers in the state of Tennessee.
“A fundamental aspect of the Captain D’s brand is our unwavering commitment to serving freshly prepared, high-quality food at an affordable price in a welcoming atmosphere, and we are thrilled that doing what we do best has translated into such a strong second quarter,” says Phil Greifeld, Captain D’s chief executive officer. “In the midst of continual menu innovation and restaurant re-imaging, we have remained true to our core values and guest-centric culture, which is reflected in our ongoing success. We look forward to maintaining this momentum as we head into the second half of the year, continuing to demonstrate why Captain D’s is a fast-casual leader.”
With the ability to appeal to a wide range of consumers, Captain D’s expanded the offerings of its grilled menu in the second quarter and debuted a limited-time Parmesan Crusted Tilapia Meal and new Tilapia and Shrimp Skewer Meal. Additionally, D’s rolled out a limited-time 5 Under $5 menu. This included a new Crispy Flounder Meal, featuring tender and flaky flounder filets that are hand-breaded with a new light and crispy breading. To drive awareness for its new 5 Under $5 promotion, the company also debuted a new television commercial which features a young married couple, representing one of the brand’s fastest growing consumer segments. Toward the end of the quarter, D’s introduced additional items to delight its guests over the summer months, including Home-Style Fish Tenders, D’s famous Fried Pickles, and Key Lime Pie.
Amid positive sales growth, Captain D’s is continuing to drive franchise development and recently signed two new development agreements to expand in the greater Atlanta area. Ben Patel, who will be developing two restaurants in Madison, Georgia, brings nearly a decade of restaurant and operations experience to his first Captain D’s venture. Ali and Anil Dossani also bring extensive experience as multiunit franchise owners in the restaurant industry, and will be opening three Captain D’s restaurants in Acworth, Stone Mountain, and Duluth, Georgia.
“Our success is a direct result of our incredible team, whose hard work has already made 2015 a spectacular year for Captain D’s,” Greifeld adds. “Being honored by The Tennessean as a top employer in the state is further validation, and we are thrilled to continue expanding our team with new franchisees.”
With 512 restaurants in 26 states, Captain D’s is the fast-casual seafood leader and number one seafood franchise in America ranked by average unit volume. Captain D’s recently unveiled a new design featuring a vibrant, coastal atmosphere and upgraded the dining experience with new plate ware and silverware. Captain D’s new menu, featuring several new items, is brought to life with upgraded menu boards and also features several new kids’ meal offerings. With these efforts, Captain D’s has remained true to what it does best—serving high-quality seafood with warm hospitality at an affordable price.
