Nick Marsh, CEO of Chopt Creative Salad Company, announced Thursday the formation of foodservice parent company, Founders Table Restaurant Group, and the acquisition of New York-based chain Dos Toros Taqueria.

Chopt, also based in New York, was started by Big Apple natives Tony Shure and Colin McCabe in 2001. The friends, who attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, were dissatisfied with the food choices. They decided to open Chopt after graduating, with a variety of salads and homemade dressings as the cornerstones of the menu.

Brothers Leo and Oliver Kremer founded Dos Toros in 2009 when they had the desire to bring the flavor of northern California to New York City. The fast-casual restaurant—using sustainably sourced ingredients—offers items such as burritos, bowls, salads, quesadillas, nachos, and tacos.

Later this year, Founders Table, a new holding company backed by private-equity giant L-Catterton, will introduce new ordering platforms and a fresh loyalty program. The new additions will allow customers to easily order and redeem points across both brands.

L Catterton holds roughly $20 billion worth of equity capital across 17 offices in the world. Some of its investments include Noodles & Company, Hopdoddy Burger Bar, Uncle Julio’s, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, Protein Bar and Kitchen, and others. It recently purchased Del Frisco’s for $650 million before selling the company’s Double Eagle Steakhouse and Del Frisco’s Grille concepts to Tilman Fertitta’s Landry’s, Inc. That left the firm with bartaco and Barcelona Wine Bar, which it current operates as two separate businesses. Previous investments for L Catterton also include Bloomin’ Brands, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, and P.F. Chang’s.

Chopt operates 66 locations in eight states and Washington, D.C., while Dos Toros oversees 21 units across New York and Chicago.

“We have always believed that the core strength of a restaurant brand is driven by the passion and authenticity of its founders,” Marsh said in a statement. “They remain focused on the quality of the food and the hospitality of each and every customer interaction. It is our mission.”
