Dickey’s Barbecue Pit celebrated 70 years of serving the greatest tasting barbecue Tuesday. The restaurant chain, famous for its pit-smoked signature meats and souvenir big yellow cups, offered $1 big barbecue southern pulled pork sandwiches and drinks at every store nationwide in celebration of the milestone.
“This is a huge year for us: we are turning 70 and expanding at an unbelievable rate of 46 percent growth rate,” says Roland Dickey, Jr., president of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. “We are grateful to each and every community that supports our restaurant, and want to give back in a big way.”
Alongside the $1 sandwiches and drinks until 3 p.m., the final round of the national barbecue eating competition was held at the original Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Dallas at 5 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to this celebration after such a remarkable year,” Dickey says. “It’s our way of saying thanks to our customers.”
Texas-based Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened in Dallas in 1941 and began franchising in 1994. The original Dallas location on 4610 N. Central Expressway remains opened for business and continues to be owned and operated by the Dickey Family.
