Dos Toros is bringing the best of Bay Area taqueria cuisine to Chicago’s Loop neighborhood—the brand’s first location outside of NYC. The Dos Toros Experience Dos Toros was created by Leo and Oliver Kremer, brothers who grew up in the Bay Area eating at their local taqueria five times a week. For them, a taqueria provided more than just a meal, it was a place that brought people together around a shared passion for local cuisine.
The Kremers saw an opportunity to replicate that experience in other parts of the U.S., opening the first Dos Toros location in NYC in 2009, followed by 12 more locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. Dos Toros offers authentic, San Francisco mission-style taqueria fare—burritos, platos, salads, quesadillas and tacos—using fresh, sustainably-sourced ingredients. All recipes are cooked from scratch in-house, daily.
Why Chicago? Chicago’s lively energy and atmosphere is undeniable, especially in The Loop—home to many restaurants, shops, and businesses.
“We’re excited for Chicago to become our second home,” says Leo Kremer, co-founder of Dos Toros. “The city has such a great appreciation for food, adventure and new experiences. To us, it feels like a great mix of the Bay Area where we grew up, and New York City where Dos Toros grew up, which made expanding to Chicago the perfect location.”
The Taqueria Chicago is the brand’s biggest location yet. The two-story, 4000-sq. ft. space is located at the corner of Dearborn and Madison St. in the historic 1 N. Dearborn. Inside you’ll find an eye-catching staircase and modern chandeliers, designed by Alex Allen. Adding a wink to SF, the bathroom wallpaper features designs by Jorma Taccone of comedy troupe The Lonely Island. The space also seats a total of 65 guests (more than any other DT location) with booths and high-stool seating available on each level.
Guests can celebrate the official opening on August 28 in two ways: One, stop by the new Chicago location for $1 burrito day, or two, participate in #DosTorosCHI on social media. The chain is asking all burrito lovers & Dos Toros fans to post their favorite Dos Toros meal or a selfie. For each image under the hashtag #DosTorosCHI and meal sold at our Chicago location that day, the brand will donate a meal to the Greater Chicago Food Depository AND The Food Bank for NYC.
