Starting on September 1, McDonald’s customers will now receive a straw with a wrapper designed to look like a No. 2 pencil with their cold beverage. It’s part of the company’s way of making an important point about one of the things that demonstrates its commitment to being America’s best first job—offering tuition assistance to eligible employees at participating restaurants through its Archways to Opportunity education program.

To date, McDonald’s has awarded more than $14 million in high school and college tuition assistance. The No. 2 pencil straw wrappers are helping the brand celebrate the beginning of another school year and are available nationwide at nearly all 14,000 restaurants for a limited time.

McDonald’s introduced Archways to Opportunity in 2015. It’s a comprehensive education strategy with programs that give people an opportunity to grow no matter where they are on their journey.

Since the launch of Archways to Opportunity, the company has celebrated nearly 18,000 employees, from both company-owned restaurants and the restaurants of participating franchisees in the U.S., who have taken advantage of the program offerings. This is a 238 percent increase in participation over the course of one year.
