McDonald's Canada and its franchisees announced that they hired nearly 5,000 employees, almost 1,000 more than expected, during the company's first National Hiring Day event on April 19th, 2011.
More than 33,000 Canadians across the country applied in-restaurant and online for the thousands of full- and part-time crew and restaurant management positions that were on the menu during the day-long hiring blitz.
"We're thrilled to have surpassed our hiring goal and to be providing nearly 5,000 Canadians with a challenging and rewarding career opportunity with McDonald's," says Len Jillard, chief people officer at McDonald's Canada. "Our restaurant employees are the foundation of our business, and their role is vital to enhancing the McDonald's experience and to making our business strong."
On April 19th, candidates who visited participating McDonald's restaurants nationally could learn about local restaurant career opportunities, apply for available positions, and potentially get an interview on the spot with a member of the restaurant management team. Human resources representatives from the company were also available on the company's Twitter handle that day to answer questions from interested candidates about employment with McDonald's and the application process.
From the newest employees to senior management, McDonald's Canada offers its employees world-class training, benefits, flexibility, and endless career possibilities. Sixty percent of McDonald's Canada's top management and 50 percent of its franchisees started behind the counter at the company's restaurants as crew, including McDonald's Canada's past three presidents.
The company was recently recognized as a top five employer in Aon Hewitt's study of Canada's Best Employers of 2011 for the ninth time, the only quick-service restaurant in the country to earn this honor. Just this January, McDonald's Corporation won the Catalyst Award, honouring the company's global efforts to support and advance women in business.
